Little Gidding

Here, the intersection of the timeless moment
Is England and nowhere. Never and always.

-T.S. Eliot
from LITTLE GIDDING (No. 4 of 'Four Quartets')

6 Sept 2005 - While Court was visiting, he and Paul decided to make an excursion to Little Gidding. This place in Huntingdonshire has a famous church and (former) community, visited by T.S. Eliot and immortalised in his 'Four Quartets'. It is also quite difficult to reach from Cambridge. First, you have to take a bus to Huntingdon from Cambridge. Then, if it is a Friday and you left Cambridge by 8am, you can take a bus to Little Gidding. Any other day (or if you don't want to get up too early), you can take a bus from Huntingdon to Sawtry and take a nice long walk through the countryside. After their walk and visit to the church, Paul and Court stopped at the obligatory tea room / gift shop and were given a ride back to Sawtry by the woman running the gift shop. It was a long day, but despite the distance and illness, they both seemed to enjoy the day.

Little Gidding has it's own website: http://www.littlegiddingchurch.org.uk/

The walk from Sawtry to Little Gidding is, quite literally, through the middle of a field.

The inscription over the door reads: 'This is none other but the house of God and the gate of heaven' (Gen 28:17).

Court posed with T.S. Eliot, but then couldn't believe he let Paul take that picture.
